Success Story: Cooking Up a Career

With a strong desire to be a chef and provide for his family long-term, Eddie came to Goodwill to help get his career cooking.

Goodwill is so fortunate to have been granted federal funding called WIOA (Workforce Investment Opportunity Act) which allows us to help locals achieve their career dreams in many ways. People like Eddy Palacious, who came to our Affiliate One Stop” Career Center, located at our Tropicana store, looking for help finding and keeping a job, he loved.

Eddy, who is enrolled in the WIOA Youth Program, is a single father of two little girls and wanted to improve his skill set to be ready for a higher paying job.  Eddy liked cooking and had always wanted to cook professionally.  The Career Coaches enrolled him in work readiness workshops and provided enough gas cards for him to attend the training.  In addition, Eddy was provided clothing vouchers to purchase a chef uniform and a voucher for a food thermometer and non-skid shoes.  These items were required for Eddy to attend professional chef training at the Las Vegas Culinary Academy.

Eddy completed the training and now works at Firerock as a dishwasher and is well prepared for the next chef opening.

Thank you to everyone who makes helping job seekers in our community possible!
