Ashley Torres, a military spouse, spent most of her life living in other countries. When Ashley and her spouse recently returned to the United States, they settled in Las Vegas, Nevada. Until she attended a meeting for Veterans and their families, Ashley had no idea how to find meaningful employment in the United States.
After visiting with a Veteran Career Coach, she learned that free career training and job assistance was available at Goodwill. Through our Dislocated Worker’s Grant (DWG), Ashley was able to pursue training to become a dental assistant. She was provided with gas cards to get to school as well. Since COVID-19, the dental assistant training was postponed, but Ashely is still studying and focused on the future.
Finally scheduled to take her final exams, Ashely is almost finished with formal training and will be placed in an internship as a dental assistant when she passes her exam. The DWG grant even allows for her to receive wages during her internship. Ashely shares, “My long-term plan is to become a surgical lead assistant, so I can help make smiles happen. I thank the Goodwill Career Center for all they have done. They really helped me get my life on track.”
